Chris Broodryk

Chris Broodryk (Ph.D.) is an associate professor in the School of the Arts, University of Pretoria, where he was chair of drama from 2019 to 2022. He is the editor of the volume Public Intellectuals in South Africa: Critical Voices from the Past (Wits University Press, 2021) and has recently contributed to popular publications on public intellectualism such as The Fabric of Dissent (HSRC Press, 2020) and Textures of Defiance (HSRC Press, 2023). He is the editor of a special themed issue of Tydskrif vir Letterkunde on ‘New Afrikaans-language cinemas’ (2023). His research interests include South African cinema, writing and social media studies. He teaches screenwriting, genre studies and counter-discourses in film and performance for the drama programme in the School of the Arts.
